Porsche chairman Mathias Muller has unveiled Macan SUV at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. This SUV will compete with rivals like Rage Rover Evoque.
The Porsche Macan (Macan means tiger in Indonesia) SUV is now available to order with price starting from £43,300 and will be available next year April 2014.
The vehicle looks like its sibling Cayenne with a slim tail light as well as a sloping rear window. The platform used for the car is the one used for the Audi Q5. The two share a similar high strength steel floorpan, bulk heads and body structure along with various driveline, chassis and electrical components.
The SUV measuring at 4699mm in length, 1923mm in width and 1624mm in height, the Macan is 146mm shorter, 16mm narrower and 82mm lower than the second-generation Cayenne - itself due to receive a mid-life facelift in 2014. Also 70mm longer, 24mm wider and 30mm lower than the Q5.
All model of Macan comes with PDK double-clutch transmission and ofcouse four-wheel drive.
Macan S is the entry-level model which has a twin-turbo, 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that develops 335bhp and gives a 0-62 mph time of 5.4sec. EU combined fuel consumption is 32.5mpg.
Mecan turbo has 3.6-litre, twin-turbo V6 petrol engine (is the first time used by Porche model) that develops 394bhp and gives a 0-62 mph time of 4.8sec or 4.6sec. EU combined fuel consumption is 31.7mpg.
The sole diesel option will be the Macan S Diesel, which has a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that provides EU Combined fuel economy of 46.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 159g/km. It accelerates from 0-62 mph in 6.3 seconds and has a top speed of 143 mph.
Porsche is expected to develop more affordable variants of its new SUV, including four-cylinder Macan and Macan Diesel models - a move that will make it the first Porsche to be offered with four-cylinder power since the demise of the 968 in 1995.
